ID12514 has worked in a variety of fire safety, investigation and research roles over his long and significant career. He began working as a Fire Fighter for Fire and Rescue NSW over forty five years ago, eventually excelling to become a Station Officer and then an Inspector. He spent fifteen years working in the Fire Investigation and Research Unit, becoming a Superintendent and then later as the Manager of Training Coordination and Resources in the Training Directorate.

He has attended over 1,000 fires as an investigator which included over 60 fatal fires of varying natures. These include fires in houses, factory/warehouse complexes, shopping malls, mobile property and offices, throughout NSW as well as overseas.

During his time as an investigator, ID12514 was sought after in other states and overseas for his skills, assessing fire damage in New Zealand and delivering training to the Australian Federal Police as well as the police forces in Thailand, Indonesia and the Solomon Islands.

In his capacity as an investigator, he also organised and developed numerous controlled burns, under experimental conditions on houses with furniture.

ID12514 currently works as a developer, teacher and tutor of fire investigation courses at an Australian vocational education provider, as a Research Partner for the Australian Research Council, and as the head of a fire safety and investigation company.

He also has extensive experience in emergency management and understanding the principles involved in employing outcomes that achieve success in often difficult environments.
